Canada’s Coolest School Trip was a blast!
Canada’s Coolest School Trip in 2015 to La Mauricie National Park and Québec City did not disappoint! The grade 8 class from Caledonia Regional High School got to experience everything from a beautiful canoe trip with lunch at a waterfall, to a night in a historic fort, to an exclusive dinner at a private military club and more. Take a peek into the trip here.
On Day 1 the class’ Air Canada flight arrived in Montreal from New Brunswick. They excitedly boarded the bus with the Parks Canada Youth Ambassadors, Justin and Minh, and headed to La Mauricie National Park near Shawinigan. Once they arrived, they set up their camp, had a delicious barbecue, played volleyball and went swimming! They even went for a sunset paddle in rabaska canoes and finished the night off with a campfire and s’mores!
Day 2 started with a bang with a day-long canoe and hiking expedition. Even though it was raining, Mme. Doucet’s Grade 8 class didn’t let the weather dampen their experience! Their hard work paid off as they made their way to the tumbling Waber Falls where they got to eat their lunch with a view! In the afternoon, the class headed to admire the Passage lookout and warmed up with a delicious chili dinner and hot chocolate. They then settling into their luxurious oTENTiks before calling it a night.
Day 3 began with an exploratory hike, games and some beach time in the brightly shining sun! After lunch the class waved goodbye to La Mauricie and prepared to enlist in the army at Fort #1 of the Lévis Forts National Historic Site. The class took a behind-the-scenes tour of the fort and learned its historical background just after getting an introduction to traditional Quebec music and dancing. The day ended with a scrumptious dinner of roast beef and pork and a campfire with none other than…more s’mores!
Day 4 began with a ferry ride to Old Québec City where the class got a chance to delve into the city’s rich history after a ride on the funicular! The students learned some secrets of Saint –Louis Forts and Châteaux, the Fortifications of Québec and Artillery Park before getting some time to shop for souvenirs! After changing into their fanciest attire at their hotel, they took horse and carriages to dinner at one of the most prestigious military club, the Quebec Garrison Club.
The trip came to an end on Day 5 and it was time for the students (and chaperones) to catch their breath from a whirlwind of a tour. This final day involved a couple last minute photo ops in the revolving restaurant with a killer view on top of Le Concorde hotel before heading to the airport.
Without fail, Canada’s Coolest School Trip has done it again! We just have one question…. Can we join along next year?
