Olivia and her family bring you the Ultimate Family Adventure!
Olivia C., the winner of this year’s Ultimate Family Adventure contest, recently returned from her grand prize trip and wanted to tell you all about it. The trip, a 4-day whirlwind tour of Parks Canada places in Cape Breton, took place from July 19 - 22, and included tons of different activities!
Thanks to our friends at Air Canada, Olivia and her family flew from Montreal to Sydney, Nova Scotia for the start of their adventure on Friday. After settling in, the family enjoyed a private boat tour of Louisbourg that evening where they learned about the shipwrecks that lie beneath, all while experiencing the Fortress from a great vantage point – its harbour!
On Saturday, Olivia and her family were treated to Parks Day at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. There were family activities such as games, dancing, and races at the Fortress to celebrate this special day. Olivia and her family also had the chance to experience a true 18th century meal at the Grandchamps restaurant - yum! Later on that evening, the family continued to celebrate Louisbourg’s 300th anniversary by attending LouisRocks, a waterfront concert featuring Bella Rebellion and Joel Plaskett Emergency.
Sunday saw Olivia and her family head to Baddeck, where they took a guided tour of Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. They discovered that this genius had many inventions, not just the telephone! After having a chance to explore the museum and grounds, they were on the road yet again to Chéticamp, a welcoming Acadian community located at the entrance to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. They were able to drive along the spectacular Cabot Trail and spent the night overlooking the sea and enjoying the breathtaking sunset.
Monday was the last full day of their trip. Olivia and her family continued along the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. They were able to take in the breathtaking scenery as they explored the park through the morning. The afternoon provided an opportunity to step into the ocean at Ingonish beach. Then it was back to Sydney and off to bed for the trip home on Tuesday morning.
What was the highlight of the trip? Olivia tells you in her own words:
"My trip can be summarized in one word: phenomenal! The Cape Breton weather and food is so different than ours and the people are so kind. They reside on an island covered in spectacular scenery, especially the Cabot Trail and Louisbourg. One day was not enough to learn about its history. There was so much to learn that we would have stayed much longer. I am really happy to have won this adventure in Nova Scotia! I learnt a lot! It was fabulous! Thanks."
